The only non-Windows that can be installed on my H12Y is the BSDs family OS. I have tried thousands times to install GNU/Linux OSes but none of them bear fruit. So a few days ago I manage to installed the quite recently release PCBSD 7.
First impression, I was really impressed because everything just worked out of the box…I really mean it… everything from NTFS detection to Realtek wireless everything just work. I was able play musics, videos, and whatever media came through my mind. Seems really a peace of mind.
I am a big fan of GNOME just to let you know. KDE is not really my cup of tea. Seriously this is the first time I use KDE. Lots of interesting feature notably the widget on the desktop. Oh its the infamous KDE 4 and… no wonder the desktop always crash every few minutes. Damn it. Spoil my fun. I never had this bad in any GNOME I ever experience. I just cannot mod my desktop the way I like, another thing I hate about it.
However in terms of PCBSD I am pleased until one point. I tried to get connected to the wireless. It was well detected. I was connected well in Windows session before and just wanna play around in PCBSD. Suddenly it’s only able to detect but unable to connect. I am furious and tried to turn off wireless switch on my laptop and switch it on again. Oh my God… kernel panic the computer restart and from then on nothing works anymore. Not the NTFS nor FAT32 drive detection and don’t ever wish the wireless to work.
Yes that was my fault, but still why does the kernel stop loading all the driver permanently? Why don’t just restart and everything start usual. What ever it was, it was a fun time I had with PCBSD. Now I’m waiting for the real FreeBSD 7.1 to come out not the prerelease which PCBSD used.
I wish to permanently ditch Windows in the future. Looks like it is still long way to go…Still need to love the unknown beast Windows XP (I don’t even know a thing about how Windows works, damn it closed source.)
Until then bye.
